Dual-App QR Membership & Gym Management System

Status details: Member app live on App Store & Google Play

Engineered an integrated QR-based gym membership ecosystem featuring a dedicated member application for facility access, subscription tracking, and live check-ins, alongside an administrative application for desk operations and billing.

Technologies & Stack

Architecture & Engineering Highlights

  • Two-app architecture: Member application for check-ins, memberships, and QR passes alongside Admin application for front-desk, trainers, and billing.
  • Instant dynamic QR code validation with offline tolerance and real-time backend check-in sync.
  • Cross-platform mobile deployment across iOS and Android built on React Native.

The Problem & Context

Gym franchises struggle with unauthorized pass-sharing, slow front-desk bottleneck check-ins during peak hours, and unreliable paper-based or disjointed subscription logs.

System Architecture

Engineered a decoupled, dual-application ecosystem: a member-facing mobile client generating encrypted, time-rotating QR passes, and an admin/staff management client validating check-ins instantly against an in-memory Redis token cache backed by PostgreSQL.

Engineering Decisions

  • Dynamic rotating QR tokens with 30-second TTL to eliminate static screenshot sharing.
  • Local biometric auth (FaceID / Fingerprint) integration on mobile devices to streamline daily pass generation.
  • Connection resilience with optimistic check-in queueing on client devices during momentary cellular dropouts.
  • Role-based staff permissions distinguishing trainers, front-desk receptionists, and finance administrators.

Verified Outcomes

  • Shipped and verified on Google Play Store and Apple App Store.
  • Reduced front-desk peak check-in latency from ~45 seconds to under 2 seconds per member.
  • Zero reported fraudulent check-in pass transfers across pilot facility operations.
